Tarkarli is a small village located in the Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra. It is located on the banks of the confluence of the River Karli and the Arabian Sea. Situated in the southern part of Maharashtra, it is 6 km south of the Malvan and around 546 km from Mumbai. Tarkarli is a beautiful seaside village with lots of small islands and Shuru trees around it.
Tarkarli is known for its long and narrow stretch of white sandy beaches and clear blue waters of the sea. The water is so clear that tourists can view sea life up a depth of 20 feet. Tarkarli is known for the various water sports like scuba diving, zorbing, snorkelling, etc. There are expert teachers and guides, and special certified courses are also conducted for these sports, making it a perfect destination for the water sports lovers. Apart from this, Tarkarli is a wonderful place to experience and witness varied marine life like dolphins and other sea animals. It is also a protected region for female turtles. The best time to visit Tarkarli is from October to March.
One of the most important events celebrated in Tarkarli is Ramnavmi Utsav, which is organised every year at the Mapurush Temple. Tarkarli is known for its Malvani food, particularly its fish items. From Tarkarli, tourists can also catch a glimpse of the famous Sindhudurg Fort, a prominent naval fort built by Shivaji Maharaj.
Sindhudurg Fort is an important tourist destination. The entrance to the fort is called Dilli Darwaja. Moreover, it is also known for the temple dedicated to the Shivaji.
1. Vijayadurg Fort:
Vijaydurg fort is located at the tip of the peninsular region of Vijaydurg in Devgad Taluka, of district Sindhudurg. It is one of the several coastal forts on the western coast of Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by water on three sides and connected to land through a narrow road. The port adjacent to the fort is a natural port and is still used by local fishermen.
2. Tarkarli Beach:
India has beaches that can rival those of the Maldives as well.
Located where the Karli River and the Arabian Sea converges, the waters off Tarkarli Beach is perfect for scuba diving. But it is so clear, you don’t even have to snorkel to have an incredible view of the sea life!
3. Dhamapur Lake :
This is one of the favorite places for tourists. The Dhamapur Lake covers a total area of about 10 acres with water and offers facilities for water-based sports activities. As the lake is free from extreme wave, which makes it much suitable for adventure free boating. There is also a temple present in the area of the lake that is surrounded by greenery that is the Bhagwati Temple.
